Anne Hambleton

American author. Anne Hambleton has a lifetime of experience with horses, starting as a pony mad child on a hairy Shetland, progressing to eventing, working in the world of horses and riding as an amateur steeplechase jockey. She now trains and competes on retired racehorses.

Anne has also written a children's horse story set in the world of racing. This is a 'pony point of view' book about what happens to a race horse when he can no longer cut the mustard on the track.

Anne and her book have their own website.

RAJA: STORY OF A RACE HORSE
(OLD BOW PUBLISHING [USA] 2011)
ILLUSTRATED BY MARGARET KAUFFMAN
In print.
SUMMARY: Pony-point-of-view story. Raja is a top racehorse running on the Kentucky Derby trail. But when a series of bad luck and a bad fright end Raja's racing career he enters the sometimes murky world of the ex-racehorse. From jumping on the A circuit to working as a police horse, to the horrors of the auction ring, Raja must endure many changes until he finally finds his destiny.
PONYMAD VIEW: Rings the changes on the usual Black Beauty type of story by its setting in the racing and competition world. Although I have not read this as yet,, the book has had many excellent reviews and, with the author's years of experience with horses, is sure to have an authentic feel.
